Is AI Coming For Your Job?

6 Jun 2025

“AI is coming for your job.”

It’s become one of the most clickbait-friendly narratives on LinkedIn: “AI is replacing humans.” Every week there’s a new post or article claiming the end of jobs as we know them. But the reality? It’s rarely that simple.

But if we look beyond the hype, the reality is more nuanced.

In the past few months, several high-profile companies that replaced human roles with AI have already backtracked:

???? Klarna replaced 700 customer support agents with a chatbot. It was fast, but not empathetic. Customers were frustrated, and Klarna had to reintroduce humans to handle complex issues.

???? IBM automated much of its HR team with AI. But around 6% of cases required emotional intelligence, context, or ethical judgment, things the system couldn’t handle. They had to rehire.

???? McDonald’s tried AI at the drive-thru. It misunderstood orders so badly that it became a meme. They’ve since scrapped the project and brought staff back.

???? NEDA, a nonprofit, replaced their mental health helpline with a bot. It gave harmful advice, and was pulled offline in less than a week.

???? Even Duolingo had to walk back plans to go “AI-first” after internal backlash and public concern. Their CEO quickly clarified that humans remain essential.

These stories reveal something important:

AI is a powerful tool, but it’s not a plug-and-play replacement for human workers, especially not in its current form or in roles that require empathy, creativity, or critical thinking.

The future isn’t “AI vs Humans”, it’s “AI with Humans.”

That said, job roles will evolve, AI is just the next tool in the toolbox.

The real question? Can you use it better than the person next to you?

Double down on human skills.
Learn to work with the machines.
That’s how you stay in demand.
